Job summary

Virtuous is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join our growing Engineering team in the United States. You will own critical areas of the platform end-to-end, from UI to backend services, while leveraging modern AI tools to accelerate development without compromising quality.

You’ll work on Python/Django backend with PostgreSQL and a frontend migrating to HTMX, React, and GraphQL, focusing on reliability, performance, and observability as we scale for nonprofits globally.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building modern web applications and scaling them in production.
• Proficiency in Python and Django.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents as part of regular development workflow.
• Experience operating cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Terraform.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks like React or Vue.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills including indexing and query optimization.
• Experience with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
• DevOps fundamentals and observability practices.
• Strong communication and team-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Own performance and scalability of the data layer for enterprise-scale onboarding.
• Own asynchronous and background-processing infrastructure (Celery).
• Design, build, and ship new features across the full stack, including messaging and analytics.
• Move frontend to server-side HTMX while improving velocity and reliability.
• Design and maintain scalable web apps for nonprofits worldwide.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate user needs into solutions.
• Write clean, testable code across frontend and backend.
• Participate in architectural decisions and code reviews.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and observability with meaningful alerts.
• Provide feedback on technology choices and support continuous delivery.
