Job summary

Selara is hiring fullstack engineers to work on VA.gov, the digital frontdoor for the Department of Veterans Affairs. You will ship features across that path, from veterans' forms to the API and background jobs that carry it through.

This fully remote role within the United States emphasizes accessibility, testing, and collaboration with a distributed team. You will help design, implement, and evolve the stack, from frontend components to Rails API endpoints.

Qualifications

• Experience shipping production software across a JS frontend and Rails backend.
• Strong React and TypeScript skills with modern patterns.
• Strong Ruby on Rails skills, API design, PostgreSQL, background processing, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship features end to end across the VA.gov React frontend and Rails APIs.
• Write modern React with function components, hooks, and TypeScript.
• Build and maintain Rails API endpoints, service objects, and Sidekiq background jobs.
• Integrate with VA systems of record and design for failure modes to prevent lost submissions.
• Ship accessible interfaces meeting WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
• Strengthen test coverage across RSpec, component tests, and end-to-end tests.
• Review code, improve CI and observability, and share context with a distributed team.
• For staff, set technical direction and mentor engineers across services.
