Job summary

Ad Hoc LLC is hiring a Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack for remote work to design, develop, and maintain scalable government digital services using Ruby on Rails and React. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor engineers while shaping technical direction and best practices.

The role emphasizes API design, observability with Datadog, and AI-assisted development, ensuring high-quality, maintainable software for VA and other government programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field with 7+ years of experience.
• Strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining full-stack apps using Rails, React, and PostgreSQL.
• Design, develop, integrate, and troubleshoot APIs, including government or third-party systems.
• Experience building dashboards and alerts with Datadog or similar observability tools.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools in professional workflows.
• Experience with version control, code reviews, automated testing, and modern development practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, reliable applications for government digital services.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders across the lifecycle.
• Provide technical guidance, perform code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
• Shape technical approaches, improve practices, and ensure maintainability and performance.
• Create and maintain design docs, architecture diagrams, and implementation details.
• Develop monitoring, dashboards, and alerts to support system health.
• Lead smaller initiatives or workstreams when appropriate.
