Job summary

Goliath-Partners is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to own end-to-end backend systems and APIs. You will work on Python-based services, integrations, databases, and cloud infrastructure, with opportunities to contribute to frontend work using React and TypeScript when appropriate.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend development.
• Strong hands-on experience developing production applications with Python; Django experience is a strong bonus.
• Experience building REST APIs, backend services, data models, and scalable systems.
• Professional experience with PostgreSQL and AWS.
• Knowledge of frontend tech, especially React and TypeScript.
• Experience in distributed, cloud-native, highly available applications.
• Ability to drive a project from concept to architecture, implementation, deployment, and production ownership.
• Strong software architecture and engineering principles around scalability, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services, APIs, and components supporting core financial and product functionality.
• Take ownership of large-scale projects from requirements through development, launch, and improvements.
• Develop and manage integrations with third-party APIs, vendors, and external platforms.
• Contribute to decisions on architecture, data models, service boundaries, and standards.
• Collaborate with frontend and mobile engineers to deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences.
• Investigate and resolve issues related to performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.
• Improve practices with automated testing, observability, logging, and monitoring.
• Participate in technical design sessions, code reviews, sprint planning, and incident response.
• Lead backend initiatives and maintain engineering standards.
• Make pragmatic decisions addressing current needs while laying foundations for growth.
