Job summary

Virtuous is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join our growing Engineering team in the United States. You will own both frontend and backend systems, crafting intuitive UIs and robust services, while tackling performance, reliability, and scale for nonprofit clients.

You will work with Python/Django on the backend, PostgreSQL as the primary datastore, and HTMX for server-side frontend progress.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building modern web applications in production
• Proficiency in Python and Django (or similar)
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents in daily workflow
• Experience operating cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Terraform
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks (React or Vue)
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL and performance tuning
• Experience integrating RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
• Solid DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD, containers, monitoring

Responsibilities

• Own performance and scalability of the data layer for enterprise-scale onboarding
• Own asynchronous and background processing infra (e.g., Celery)
• Design, build, and ship full-stack features across UI and backend
• Move frontend toward server-side HTMX, improving velocity and reliability
• Build scalable web apps used by nonprofits worldwide
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate needs into tech solutions
• Write clean, testable code across frontend and backend
• Contribute to architectural decisions and platform direction
• Participate in code reviews and foster a learning culture
• Ensure reliability, observability, and production health
