Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This hybrid role supports projects across multiple offices, including Boston, MA; Fairfax, VA; Pittsburgh, PA; Maitland, FL; Raleigh, NC; and Dallas, TX.

You will design fire protection systems, lead life-safety analyses, and ensure compliance with NFPA and UFC standards. The ideal candidate brings a PE license, 7+ years of related experience, and strong CAD/3D design skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and PE license.
• Minimum 7 years of related experience.
• Travel may be required; domestic and/or international.
• Experience with federal projects and NFPA/UFC compliance is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of life safety, fire protection systems, and codes.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection designs including sprinkler, suppression, pumps, and alarms.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects and ensure life safety compliance.
• Review designs for NFPA, UFC, and local regulations and sign off.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff on projects.
• Collaborate with sales for proposals and client reviews.
