Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design fire protection systems and perform life safety analyses for federal and other projects. You will develop comprehensive designs, review for compliance, and mentor junior staff across multiple offices in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering or related discipline
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• 7 years of related experience; equivalent additional directly related experience considered
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; travel frequency depends on project duties
• Experience with federal projects and life safety, NFPA/UFC standards is preferred
• Experience with fire protection system design including water supply, pumps, and alarms

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection designs, including layout, basis-of-design, hydraulics, and detailed sprinkler and suppression plans
• Act as QFPE for federal projects and provide life safety, fire suppression and fire alarm analyses
• Review designs for compliance with applicable codes and sign off on documents
• Create fire protection and life safety engineering evaluations (eg. egress, fire separation)
• Utilize HydraCAD/HydraCALC or similar software for analyses
• Ensure adherence to NFPA, UFC, state and local regulations on designs
• Collaborate with sales to prepare proposals and review draft proposals for compliance
• Meet with clients to review design needs and provide technical guidance to junior staff
