Job summary

U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters seeks a Fire Protection Engineer to serve as the expert in fire protection, life safety, risk management, and business continuity across its complex headquarters facilities.

The role involves evaluating engineering plans, ensuring NFPA and building-code compliance, and guiding major modernization projects with integrated fire suppression and life safety systems. A ABET-accredited degree or equivalent experience, plus relevant licensure, is required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional licensure or registration (EI/EIT/PE) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering, life safety, NFPA standards, and building codes.

Responsibilities

Lead fire protection and life safety efforts across complex headquarters facilities.
Assess architectural schematics and engineering plans for NFPA and safety compliance.
Provide engineering direction for major renovations ensuring integrated fire suppression and life safety systems.
Oversee preventive maintenance and operations with facility partners across multiple buildings.
