Job summary

GHD’s US East Region seeks a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead full‑service fire protection and life safety consulting for private and public sector clients, including federal facilities. You will collaborate with architects, engineers and designers to deliver compliant, high‑quality solutions, across multiple project types and scales.

The role offers a hybrid work model with three days in office and opportunities to base in Baltimore, MD; Bowie, MD; Chantilly, VA; Orlando, FL; or nearby

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or ABET accredited degree.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 10–20 years of experience in fire protection systems design and life safety consulting.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA and ICC codes and FM Global datasheets.
• Experience developing contract documents for fire alarm and suppression systems.
• Proven experience across all stages of the project life cycle, from bids to client management.
• Interest in coaching and mentoring graduate and EIT engineers.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% to project sites and client meetings.
• DoD and civilian agencies’ project experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and collaborate on fire protection systems design and life safety/code consulting projects.
• Provide life safety analysis including codes, occupancy classification, and exits.
• Develop technical documentation: narratives, memos, drawings, and specs.
• Manage fire protection projects within multi‑discipline teams.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers on building code consulting.
• Identify hazards and mitigation techniques for fire protection.
• Support business development and proposals for IDIQ TOs and opportunities.
• Support client relationship development and strategic growth initiatives.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers in the team.
• Perform peer reviews and QA/QC of design documents.
• Participate in construction administration: RFIs, submittals, punch lists, tests.
• Serve as Engineer of Record where needed.
