Job summary

Salt Lake City is seeking a Fire Prevention Supervisor to lead inspection, investigation, prevention, and life safety programs within the Fire Department. This non-sworn role reports to the Fire Marshal and supervises Fire Prevention Specialists, driving code compliance and community risk reduction.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Five years of progressive experience in fire prevention, including inspection, investigation, and code enforcement.
• ICC Fire Inspector I certification is required.
• Advanced knowledge of modern fire prevention principles, investigation techniques, and protection systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead programs and supervise personnel.
• Advanced written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency with fire prevention software and digital reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Leads and directs fire prevention programs with full accountability for outcomes.
• Supervises and provides development opportunities for assigned personnel.
• Develops and implements community risk reduction strategies.
• Establishes program goals and performance metrics.
• Manages budget planning and resource allocation.
• Serves as technical authority on fire protection regulations.
• Reviews and approves construction plans for code compliance.
• Conducts complex fire code inspections of existing structures and construction sites.
• Recommends new code adoptions and policy updates.
• Manages permit issuance program and compliance strategies.
• Builds partnerships with stakeholders and professional organizations.
• Serves as liaison with developers, contractors, and community groups.
