Job summary

The City of Lakeville seeks a Fire Marshal to lead the Fire Prevention Division, shaping safety strategy, overseeing inspections, investigations, and code enforcement while reporting to the Fire Chief.

You will mentor a skilled team, collaborate with developers and city departments, and serve on the command team including acting Fire Chief duties as needed.

This role blends administration with field work, education outreach, and risk reduction across commercial and residential properties.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive fire service experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or officer capacity.
• Current active certifications: Fire Inspector I, Fire Officer I, Hazardous Materials Operations, FEMA NIMS ICS-100/200/700/800.
• State of Minnesota Licensed Firefighter upon employment.
• Blue Card certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Fire Inspector Plans Examiner (Fire Inspector II) or equivalent within NFPA standards.
• Fire Investigation certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structural plan reviews for compliance with fire and building codes.
• Lead fire and life safety inspections of occupancies and document deficiencies.
• Respond to emergencies and provide incident command support as needed.
• Investigate fires and preserve evidence, cooperate with Police on arson cases.
• Provide reports and testimony related to fire prevention and enforcement.
