Job summary

Salt Lake City is seeking a Fire Prevention Specialist to join the Fire Department. Under the Fire Marshal's guidance, you will conduct inspections, enforce safety codes, and educate the public on fire prevention and life safety.

You will prepare reports, provide training, and act as a consultant on life safety issues. The role requires strong communication, ability to handle challenging interactions with the public, and a commitment to protecting the community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Fire Inspector I certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Knowledge of fire prevention methods and building/fire codes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct general inspections for compliance with fire codes and laws.
• Enforce safety codes and take proper legal action for compliance.
• Serve as consultant to fire department and public on fire prevention and life safety.
• Prepare reports and maintain files for inspections and enforcement.
• Provide training to other city departments as required.
• Represent department at life and safety program events.
