Role Summary

The Financial Planning Analyst III is a subject matter expert in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in financial planning activities and provide recommendations to support cost saving goals and strategies.

Key Duties
  1. Acts as a subject matter expert in FP&A.
  2. With minimal direction from leadership, exercises considerable judgment to facilitate procedural changes and technological advances within FP&A to increase efficiency, create financial transparency and drive budget/forecast accountability.
  3. Makes recommendations and provides ad-hoc analysis and actionable insights to senior leadership to support cost saving goals and strategies.
  4. Owns monthly cadence output, including close process, including market profitability, variance-to-budget and forecast reporting.
  5. Prepares financial models and reporting to support Alaska Airlines decision making, including multi-year modeling, competitive analysis/industry benchmarking, and what-if scenarios.
  6. Partners with disparate FP&A divisions and corporate groups to complete and present analysis of corporate initiatives of varying scopes and sizes.
  7. Assists in the preparation and dissemination of budget goals; analyzing progress on budget targets throughout the process and aggregating final output for Board presentation.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  1. 4 years of experience in finance, accounting, investment banking or related area.
  2. Bachelor’s degree with a focus in finance, accounting, economics or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  3. Experience using net present value (NPV) and associated calculations as a decision-making tool.
  4. Experience with cash flow and balance sheet metrics as well as activity-based costing.
  5. Knowledge of GAAP.
  6. Knowledge of reporting fundamentals.
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel (and large datasets) and PowerPoint.
  8. Strong communication skills, with an ability to explain complex concepts to audiences of varying organizational levels, including executive management.
  9. A self-starter with a bias for action.
  10. Detail-driven, with the ability to understand overriding goals.
  11. Optimistic, open-minded, curious, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  12. High school diploma or equivalent.
  13. Minimum age of 18.
  14. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Experience with VBA/SQL, predictive analytics, dashboard reporting (Tableau), enterprise planning software (e.g. Cognos TM1), and general ledger system (e.g. PeopleSoft).
  3. Knowledge of airline or transportation industry fundamentals and the associated competitive landscape.
  4. Ability to learn complex processes and systems, recommend appropriate updates, and facilitate changes.

Starting Rate Salary Range

$97,200 -- $145,800 / year

Bonus Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
