Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA preferred.
• 2–5 years of accounting or finance experience.
• Senior Accountant level or equivalent experience considered.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience in public/private practice with intent to move to industry.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze financial statements for multiple entities, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flows.
• Create consolidated trial balances in Excel for quarterly reporting.
• Collaborate with CFO on quarterly/year-end statements and cash flow.
• Prepare monthly flash reports using budgets, prior-year results and current month performance.
• Update flash reports to final consolidated operating statements.
• Analyze budget vs. actual performance and develop forecasts.
• Prepare annual budgets consolidating departmental/subsidiary budgets.
• Act as primary contact for auditors with schedules and explanations.
• Ensure internal controls and regulatory compliance.
• Manage and report on royalty payments and local tax filings.
• Identify process improvements to strengthen controls.

The Opportunity

Hyered is representing a well-established, independent international music publishing company seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join its New York-based finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with a strong accounting foundation looking to take the next step in their career within the music and entertainment industry.

This role would be particularly well suited to someone looking to make the move from private practice into industry, as well as candidates already working within music, media or entertainment.

Working closely with the CFO, the Financial Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, financial operations and operational compliance across multiple entities. The role offers broad exposure and clear progression potential toward senior management.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse financial statements across multiple entities, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements for banking and certified reporting
• Create and maintain consolidated trial balances in Excel for quarterly financial reporting
• Partner with the CFO on quarterly and year-end financial statements and cash flow reporting
• Prepare monthly flash reports using consolidated budgets, prior-year results and current month performance
• Update flash reports to produce final consolidated operating statements
• Analyse budget vs. actual performance and produce financial forecasts
• Prepare annual budgets by consolidating departmental and subsidiary budgets
• Act as a key point of contact for auditors, providing schedules, documentation and transaction explanations
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and relevant regulatory requirements
• Manage and report on royalty payments, ensuring accurate calculation and timely distribution
• Prepare local tax filings
• Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and strengthen financial controls

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA preferred
• 2-5 years' experience in accounting or finance
• Previous experience at Senior Accountant level or equivalent
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP
• Experience within public/private practice with a desire to transition into industry will also be considered
