Job summary

Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences, Inc. (FAES) seeks a Senior Financial and Operations Analyst to manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.

You will support contracts, dashboards, and program revenue analysis, working closely with staff and leadership to ensure accuracy and timely results. The role requires 5+ years in financial analysis and nonprofit accounting, advanced Excel, and experience with FP&A tools.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of financial analysis and accounting experience.
• Expert-level proficiency with FPA systems like Solver, Adaptive and Microsoft Excel.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma and 5 or more years of financial experience required.

Responsibilities

Senior Financial and Operations Analyst

About the Role

The Senior Financial and Operations Analyst will report directly to the Controller with dotted line to the CFO. This role is responsible for managing budgets, forecasts and financial operating reporting requirements for FAES, contracts management and dashboard coordination. The ideal candidate will be adept at balancing competing demands, managing deadlines, maintaining attention to detail, and working collaboratively within a team environment with honesty and integrity.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Work closely with internal staff to prepare annual budgets and prepare, monitor and update forecasts on an ongoing basis
• Provide financial expertise and analysis to internal business teams and clients, including reviewing and analyzing program revenue and expenses as well as budgeting
• Contribute to month-end financial reporting process, including account and margin analysis and reconciliation of key accounts.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
• Own the Financial Planning and Analysis/Corporate Performance Management system at FAES
• Maintain and oversee contracts in the Docusign (or similar) contract management system
• Provide analytical support to various departments in FAES. Review and help prepare financial components of proposals and reports to funders
• Conduct training to internal staff on financial processes and best practices
• Monitor changes in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulations to ensure the organization remains up-to-date and compliant, assisting with any necessary implementation.
• Prepare ad hoc reporting and assist in special projects as needed like 990 etc
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Required: 5+ years of financial analysis and accounting experience.
• Required: Expert-level proficiency with FPA systems like Solver, Adaptive and Microsoft Excel.
• Required: Experience with nonprofit accounting and procedures.
• Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma and 5 or more years of financial experience required
• Must be able to pass a NIH background check

Strongly Preferred:

• Proficiency with Solver, Sage Intacct and financial systems implementation experience.
• Credible, ethical, honest, and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload to meet multiple deadlines.
• Strong analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in English.
• A self-starter capable of working independently with minimum supervision to resolve moderate to complex problems.
• Comfortable with technology and adaptable to change.
• Ability and willingness for onsite work two days a week (Bethesda, Maryland).

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary Range $88,000 - $110,000/year DOE
