Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking a hands-on Superintendent to lead field operations for commercial construction projects in the Washington, DC area. You will direct daily site activities, ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence, and collaborate with owners, general contractors, engineers, and partners.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years managing commercial teams, HVAC/MEP experience, strong scheduling, cost control, and the ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience supervising commercial construction projects.
HVAC, Plumbing, or MEP experience strongly preferred.
Proven success leading field teams and coordinating complex commercial projects.
Strong understanding of scheduling, sequencing, manpower planning, and cost control.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Direct daily field operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Develop and manage project schedules to keep work progressing on time.
Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for maximum efficiency.
Plan work sequencing and proactively resolve field challenges.
Represent VMG in meetings with owners, general contractors, engineers, and project partners.
Complete daily reports, timesheets, schedules, and documentation accurately.
Track labor productivity, project costs, invoices, and subcontractor performance.
Maintain organized project records from startup through closeout.
Lead, mentor, and motivate field crews.
Establish clear expectations and hold teams accountable.
Foster a collaborative, respectful work environment built on trust and communication.
Help develop the next generation of field leaders.
