Role overview

This senior-level position supports customers using advanced production hardware through a blend of onsite installation, maintenance, and upgrade work. The role is heavily travel-driven, with the engineer working from a home office and spending the majority of the week at customer sites both domestically and abroad. It sits within a customer success organization whose mandate is to keep equipment running reliably while channeling field learnings back into product development.

Responsibilities

• Travel approximately 75-90% of the time to perform onsite equipment installations, preventive maintenance, and hardware upgrades
• Train customer teams on proper product usage, operation, and routine care
• Author standard service procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and field guides
• Identify recurring failure patterns and relay those findings to engineering to influence future design decisions
• Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to investigate new issues and validate countermeasures
• Respond to occasional after-hours service calls and support international customer engagements

Requirements

• At least five years of hands-on field service or related engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline preferred, though not required with equivalent practical experience
• Ability to read electrical schematics and interpret mechanical drawings
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with a customer-facing mindset
• Valid passport and a personal vehicle, with a home base within driving distance of Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)

Benefits and work setup

• Remote-first position based out of a home office, ideally located near DTW
• Compensation bracket for Michigan-based candidates of $82,800 to $124,200 annually, with new hires generally targeted near the $103,500 midpoint based on experience, location, and skills
