Job summary

Selective Insurance seeks an Executive Trial Attorney for the Wayne, PA, Marlton, NJ, or Roseland, NJ staff counsel offices. The role requires NJ/PA workers’ compensation experience and involves defending complex litigated claims and advising the claims department.

Responsibilities include supervising Trial Attorneys, preparing and trying high-exposure cases, and coordinating with courts, clients, and opposing counsel. Travel up to 20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school.
• Bar admission in good standing required.
• Workers’ compensation experience in NJ/PA is required.
• Trial and appellate experience preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the work of assigned Trial Attorneys and provide supervisory guidance.
• Prepare and try complex, high-exposure cases to conclusion before judges; participate in mediations.
• Analyze complex legal issues, conduct research, and develop defense strategies for insureds.
• Prepare pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs; handle trials and appeals as assigned.
• Travel for depositions, court appearances, and client meetings; approx. 20% travel.
• Communicate with clients, claims personnel, opposing counsel, and courts; utilize technology effectively.
