Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking an Executive Trial Attorney for staff counsel offices in Wayne, PA, Marlton, NJ or Roseland, NJ. The role requires New Jersey and Pennsylvania workers' compensation experience and involves defending insureds in complex matters across jurisdictions.

The position includes supervising Trial Attorneys, guiding defense strategies, and coordinating with claims, underwriting and other departments.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school.
Bar admission in NJ or PA required.
Workers' compensation experience in NJ/PA.
At least 15 years of legal experience in one or both jurisdictions.
Trial experience with at least 15 matters to conclusion.
Prior leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversees the work of assigned Trial Attorneys and provides supervisory guidance.
Assists the Managing Attorney with implementing office procedures, workflows and policies.
Prepares and tries complex, high-exposure cases to conclusion before judges (possibly in multiple jurisdictions).
Analyzes complex legal and factual issues and develops defense strategies.
Prepares pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies; handles trials/appeals.
Engages in paper discovery, takes depositions, and handles pre-trial examinations.
Travels to depositions, court appearances, and client meetings (approx. 20% travel).
Communicates with clients, opposing counsel, and courts; researches issues using Lexis and other sources.
