Job summary

Selective Insurance seeks an Executive Trial Attorney to handle a civil defense docket across designated NJ offices. The role focuses on high-exposure cases in commercial general liability, automobile liability, and construction defect matters, with oversight of senior and trial attorneys.

The candidate will manage complex litigation, provide strategic defense, and collaborate with claims and underwriting. A NJ bar and 15+ years of experience are required, with travel and supervisory duties

Qualifications

Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school.
Bar admission in good standing in New Jersey.
At least 15 years of legal experience in the jurisdiction.
Trial of at least 15 matters to conclusion preferred.
Management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepares and tries complex, high exposure cases to conclusion before judges, juries and other triers of fact.
Dictates/prepares pleadings, motions, briefs, letters and reports using the company's software.
Communicates with clients, claims personnel, opposing counsel, and the courts as needed.
Researches issues using Westlaw and other sources and authorities.
Provides support to claims, underwriting and other departments with legal opinions.
Oversees clerical activity to support function of position.
Represents Selective insureds in litigation in relevant jurisdictions and tribunals.
Travels to depositions, court appearances and meetings; travel ~20%.
Assists Managing Attorney with procedures, workflows and training.
