Job summary

Rivian Automotive is seeking a Build Technician in Michigan to prepare electrified powertrain systems (drive units, gearboxes) for test activities, including assembly/disassembly and instrumentation setup. You will collaborate with Powertrain Test & Validation engineers to meet time and quality targets and support maintenance and troubleshooting with the Dyno team.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in automotive development focusing on build/tear-down.
• Experience with rotating machines (engines, transmissions, gearboxes).
• Desirable: 2+ years with electrified vehicles.
• Experience troubleshooting bearing, gear and housing failures.
• Proficient with hand and power tools and measurement gear.
• In-depth instrumentation (thermocouples, RTDs, gauges, accelerometers).
• Powertrain test setup and fault-proofing expertise.
• Mechanical tooling and fixture design knowledge.
• Knowledge of motors, inverters, gearboxes and propulsion systems.
• Strong teamwork, communication and workshop etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble electric driveline systems, including instrumentation.
• Assemble driveline systems to standard test pallets for test cells.
• Perform end-of-line quality checks and sign off build sheets.
• Conduct component assembly inspections and document results.
• Support troubleshooting and failure analysis of systems.
• Create fixtures and tools to aid assembly/disassembly and interfacing.
• Collaborate with engineering to improve build standards and instructions.
• Maintain test systems and perform routine maintenance in the test environment.
• Document processes for build and tear-down activities, and track findings.
• Communicate data insights and contribute to workshop process improvements.
