Job summary

Rivian Automotive in Michigan is seeking a Build Technician to prepare electrified powertrain systems for test activity, including assembly, disassembly, and instrumentation setup. You will collaborate with Powertrain Test & Validation engineers and Dyno Technicians to meet time and quality objectives, perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years Technician Experience working directly in automotive development field.
• Automotive experience mostly focused on build & teardown of rotating machines (e.g. engines, transmissions, gearboxes)
• Experience troubleshooting bearing, gear, housing failures and identifying relevant indicators
• Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools, including precision measurement equipment
• Expertise in instrumentation (Thermocouples, RTDs, Strain Gauges, Accelerometers, Hygrometers, Pressure Gauges, Flow Meters)
• Expertise in powertrain test set up and test error proofing
• Expertise in mechanical tooling and build fixture design
• Knowledge of motor, inverter, and gearbox concepts
• Knowledge of propulsion system and thermal (coolant and refrigerant) systems
• Knowledge of Electric Vehicle safety
• Work under strenuous / awkward positions throughout the working day.

• Work in a team environment and communicate with fellow technicians
• Basic workshop etiquette, provide verbal and writing communication across all teams
• Computing skills: Windows, MS Word, MS Excel

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble electric driveline systems, including instrumentation
• Assemble electric driveline systems (drive units, gearboxes) to standard test pallets, ready for delivery for interfacing into test cells
• Perform end-of-line quality checks of test systems and sign off of build sheets
• Perform component assembly inspections and complete appropriate documentation
• Support troubleshooting and diagnosis of system or component failure analysis
• Create fixtures and tools to aid assembly, disassembly and mechanical interfacing (palletization) of test systems
• Work with engineering teams to develop robust build standards and instructions
• Support test system maintenance activities within test environment
• Generate and take ownership of process documentation for build and tear-down activities
• Take ownership of and elevate data and findings when appropriate
• Bring a can-do team spirit
• Provide feedback, create and implement processes and suggestions to new and/or improved workshop standards, protocols, and processes.
