Job summary

Rivian in Carson, CA seeks a senior role to develop and test electric motor control and embedded software features for vehicle platforms. You will report to the Manager of Propulsion Drive Controls and Integration from our Carson, CA location.

You will collaborate with Controls and Embedded Software Engineers to test motor controls and calibrations across vehicle domains and lead integration activities while maintaining fleet health.

Qualifications

• MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of EV industry experience or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience in vehicle test environments and high-voltage, high-power laboratory settings.
• Knowledge of AC electric machine drives and three-phase switching power converter topologies.
• Extensive experience with data logging methodologies and hardware implementations.
• Fluency in MATLAB/Simulink modeling and simulation of electric drives.
• Experience developing digital control algorithms for three-phase switching power converters and AC electric machines.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
• Fluency in C and C++ programming languages.
• Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Test and verify motor controls and inverter software features across vehicle domains.
• Lead vehicle testing and integration activities; maintain fleet health.
• Develop and test motor control algorithms and calibrations for high-power drive systems.
• Perform validation testing at system and subcomponent levels.
• Perform software regression and release testing for inverter control algorithms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including development, vehicle test, diagnostics, and service.
• Support full test coverage across HV dynamometer, HIL, sub-component, and system-level tests.
• Provide feedback to feature owners based on testing and data analysis.
• Participate in vehicle test trips for cold- and hot-weather testing; stay updated on new tech.
