Job summary

McKinsey & Company is seeking a capital projects cost estimating professional to join our Capital Analytics network in the United States. The role focuses on preparing detailed cost estimates, developing analytical tools, and supporting major capital projects.

You will engage with clients to test hypotheses, present actionable insights, and help build new benchmarking databases and cost models across sectors. Travel up to 50% may be required; extensive training and mentorship are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Construction Science, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience on major capital projects in project management or controls.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with construction estimating software for large-scale capital projects.
• Experience in consulting, strategic planning, or research is a plus.
• Proficiency with ACCE is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with other industry tools is a strong asset.
• Advanced Excel modeling and experience with large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and budget forecasts for major capital projects.
• Build and scale analytical tools for portfolio optimization and cost/schedule diagnostics.
• Develop construction cost models and proprietary solutions for large projects.
• Engage in client engagements: data gathering, hypothesis testing, and presenting findings.
• Create benchmarking databases, cost models, and market perspectives for internal/external audiences.
• Contribute to firm knowledge with capital analytics and insights.
