Job summary

McKinsey & Company is seeking a skilled Capital Analytics professional based in the United States to prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for major capital projects. You will develop analytical tools for portfolio optimization, cost/schedule diagnostics, and benchmarking, while driving actionable client-ready recommendations.

You will collaborate with client teams, leverage proprietary models, and contribute to the firm's capital analytics expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction-related field.
• 3+ years on major capital projects in owner/contractor roles.
• 3+ years using construction estimating software for large-scale projects.
• Experience in consulting, strategic planning, or research preferred.
• ACCE proficiency highly preferred.
• Familiarity with other industry tools such as Cleopatra, ProEst, Sage Estimating, InEight Estimating, Trimble Accubid, Bluebeam, Stack, RIB CostX, ICEC, or ACostE.
• Advanced Excel modeling and ability to manage large datasets.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven leadership and initiative in professional or academic settings.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative teamwork abilities.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.
• Clear verbal and written communication for insights.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and budget forecasts for major capital projects.
• Build and scale analytical tools focused on portfolio optimization, value improvement, and cost/schedule diagnostics.
• Develop construction cost models and drive actionable insights on large-scale projects.
• Engage with client teams to gather data, test hypotheses, and present recommendations.
• Create benchmarking databases and market perspectives for benchmarking.
• Synthesize findings into complex models, reports, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to Capital Analytics expertise and methodologies across engagements.
