Job summary

Sundt Construction is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead risk management and estimating teams on major projects. The role oversees multi-project activities, develops work products, and ensures timely and accurate bid delivery.

The ideal candidate has a strong design-bid-build background, experience with large transportation bids, and proficiency with P6, ERP systems, and industry estimating software, including HCSS. Senior leadership and mentoring are essential.

Qualifications

• Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
• Ten or more years of experience in an estimating role.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
• Proficient in commonly used industry estimating software programs.
• Successful history executing projects as the prime point of contact with minimal oversight for project teams.
• Proficient in the use of an Enterprise Project Management System.
• Proficient in the use of P6 and demonstrates skill in Critical Path Scheduling.
• Ideal candidates will have project experience in one or more key market sectors identified by the business unit.

Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of estimates for projects, providing input, coordination, and problem-solving value at all stages of design development.
• Strong design bid build estimating background; develop experience in P3s, Design Build, CM/GC, and CMAR as needed.
• Maintain expert level HCSS knowledge including labor rates, equipment rates, insurance, bonding, and taxes.
• Prepare accurate and timely estimates on large transportation project bids from start to finish.
• Lead and organize the estimating team and review work for compliance with plans, specs, and site conditions.
• Coordinate inputs from contracts, legal, taxes, insurance, human resources and other support groups.
• Develop subcontractor relations and manage bid outreach and Good Faith Efforts for minority participation.
• Buy-out projects with responsibility for budgeting and subcontracts/purchase orders.
• Mentor junior estimators and participate in talent management activities.
