Job summary

Sundt Construction is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead cost estimating across major transportation bids. You will oversee estimating teams, coordinate with internal partners, and ensure accurate risk assessment and timely deliverables for high-value projects.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in estimating, a four-year engineering degree, and extensive experience with P6, Primavera, and JV structures. This role emphasizes strategic bid management and cost control across complex programs.

Qualifications

• Four-year engineering degree or equivalent with technical training/experience.
• Ten+ years in estimating roles with leadership experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and common industry estimating software.
• Experience delivering large transportation projects and leading bids.
• Strong knowledge of cost structures, overheads, and contingency planning.
• Experience with Joint Ventures and alternative delivery methods (P3, Design-Build, CM/GC, CMAR).

Responsibilities

• Manage delivery of estimates across projects and bid phases.
• Lead and mentor estimating team; coordinate with contracts, legal, taxes, and other groups.
• Define contract risk, cost exposure, and mitigation strategies.
• Develop estimates for large transportation/heavy highway bids (> $100M).
• Review plans and specs; assign tasks and ensure bid compliance.
• Close out bids with subcontractors and key vendors; manage buy-out and cost tracking.
