Job summary

Sunrock Industries in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead heavy civil estimating and preconstruction across North Carolina. You will manage detailed takeoffs, risk reviews, and bid strategy from conceptual reviews to final submissions.

Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you’ll lead a team, mentor junior estimators, and interface with Owners, Architects, engineers, and subcontractors to win and field large-scale infrastructure work. Travel locally as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil estimating experience.
• Experience with NC DOT specifications and public bid processes.
• Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
• Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production rates.
• Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents.
• Conduct quantity takeoffs using industry software
• Identify constructability risks and value engineering opportunities
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits
• Develop detailed scopes of work with inclusions and exclusions
• Negotiate pricing and scope adjustments
• Track and follow up on submitted proposals
• Lead project handoff meetings with project managers and field teams
• Mentor junior estimators
• Participate in weekly estimating meetings
• Maintain estimating procedures and documentation standards
• Interface with Owners, Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors
• Attend industry events and cultivate client relationships
