Job summary

Leoforce in Houston, TX is seeking a Director of Estimating to lead the estimating team and oversee bids and cost estimates for heavy civil projects. You will establish standardized procedures, review plans, and collaborate with leadership to develop competitive bids.

The role demands strong leadership, analytical and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids while traveling up to 25% to support projects nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Approximately 10 years of relevant construction experience preferred.
• Strong background in heavy civil construction estimating, including transportation, infrastructure, or utility projects.
• Federal construction and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimating experience preferred.
• Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Microsoft Office, and related estimating software.
• Strong knowledge of construction costs, labor and equipment rates, subcontractor pricing, project budgets, and cost forecasting.
• Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids, meet tight deadlines, and travel up to 25%.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable background, driving, and drug-screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating team and oversee the preparation, review, and submission of project bids and cost estimates.
• Establish and maintain standardized estimating procedures, historical cost databases, and bid management processes.
• Review project plans, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and site logistics to ensure complete and accurate estimates.
• Analyze project risks, constructability concerns, material pricing, labor costs, equipment rates, and subcontractor bids.
• Manage estimating software, cost databases, bid calendars, and historical project performance data.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, project management, operations, engineering, suppliers, and subcontractors to develop competitive bids.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities, evaluate alternative construction methods, and improve estimating accuracy.
• Oversee the transition of completed estimates into project budgets and support project kickoff and change order pricing.
• Mentor and develop estimating personnel while ensuring deadlines and bid requirements are consistently met.
