Job summary

Mesa County is seeking a heavy equipment operator for road and bridge maintenance and construction. The role involves operating and maintaining a wide range of heavy machinery, often unsupervised, in remote settings.

The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and at least three years of related experience, with post-hire CDL tanker endorsement, flagger and brake certifications available. Emergency call-out duties and safety compliance are part of daily work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of related experience.
• Any combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License – Tanker Endorsement (post-hire).
• State Flagger Certification (post-hire).
• Brake Certification (post-hire).

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains heavy, complex equipment with little supervision.
• Performs road, field, and right-of-way maintenance and repairs.
• Demolishes and rebuilds concrete/asphalt as directed.
• Assists with traffic control at road construction sites.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment and responds to 24-hour call-outs.
