Job summary

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator III in Dickinson, ND. Join a team responsible for highway, roadway and structure maintenance, operating heavy equipment and supporting snow/ice removal and sign/guardrail work.

Responsibilities include building and ground upkeep, maintaining vehicle and equipment, and completing required paperwork. Night shifts and emergency reporting may be required; MOS substitutions accepted where applicable.

Qualifications

• Two years work experience at Equipment Operator II level.
• High school diploma or GED and three years of work experience with heavy equipment operations, highway maintenance or construction-related work, and a Class A driver’s license with air brakes and a cargo tanker endorsement.
• Two years of college coursework in engineering, heavy equipment operation or maintenance may substitute for up to two years of the work experience requirement.
• Work on night shift may be required. Work on weekends, and holidays during emergency events. Will be at times required to report to work within 30 minutes during emergency or storm situations.
• MOS substitutions for required work experience include Truck Driver (88M), Horizontal Construction Engineer (12N), Pavements & Construction (3E2X1).

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to perform maintenance duties including snow and ice control/removal.
• Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails.
• Operate power tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Perform building and ground maintenance, and routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment.
• Maintain paperwork: time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports.
