Job summary

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is hiring Equipment Operators to maintain highways and perform snow and ice control, sign and guardrail upkeep, and general maintenance. Positions include Operator II, Operator I, and a possible Training role with time to obtain licenses. Applicants must meet ND license requirements and be able to respond within 30 minutes during emergencies.

Winter hours may be from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Valid North Dakota Class A driver license with air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement by the first day of work.
Two years of relevant experience or one year of experience and one season of winter operations similar to NDDOT.
For Equipment Operator I, a valid North Dakota Class B driver license without air brake restrictions.
If no suitable candidate is found, may be filled as Equipment Operator in Training with 12 months to obtain Class A license.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment to perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance.
Install, repair, and maintain highway signs and guardrails.
Keep roadways clear of hazards such as litter, waste, debris, and carcasses.
Perform building and ground maintenance and routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment.
Maintain necessary paperwork including time records and daily diaries.
Receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision.
