Job summary

DeKalb County’s Watershed Management division seeks a skilled equipment operator. The role involves driving, operating a variety of heavy equipment and trucks, and performing maintenance tasks across county properties and utilities.

A valid Georgia CDL-B and two years of relevant experience are expected, with some assignments requiring additional endorsements. Daily duties include loading and unloading materials, moving soil and debris, and ensuring safety protocols on site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Two years' experience operating heavy trucks and/or off-road construction equipment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License; some assignments may require Class A or endorsements.
• Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment and vehicles to perform maintenance, upkeep, and construction tasks across county grounds and utilities.
• Drive roll-off containers; position for loading, secure loads, and dump materials.
• Operate Bobcat, backhoe loader, and similar loaders to move gravel, dirt, and materials.
• Use backhoe for digging and trenching while avoiding utilities and property damage.
• Mow right-of-ways and parks with articulated boom mower; clear rocks and debris as needed.
• Transport debris to landfill and load trash with knuckle-boom trucks.
• Fuel and perform routine field maintenance; inspect equipment before and after routes.
• Review work orders and coordinate with supervisors to ensure safe, efficient operations.
