Job summary

DeKalb County's Watershed Division in Georgia is seeking a highly skilled heavy equipment operator to support the maintenance and construction of roads, utilities, and related infrastructure. The job emphasizes precision, safety, and adherence to project specifications.

Responsibilities include operating excavators, track hoes, loaders, graders, and other heavy machinery, performing digging, grading and material handling on-site, with some driving on public roads.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Three years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Valid Georgia driver's license; Class A or B CDL may be required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Card as required by department.

Responsibilities

• Maneuver heavy equipment (excavator, track hoe, backhoe, loader, grader) to dig, grade, load, and move earth and materials for maintenance and construction of County roads and utilities.
• Operate and position equipment to minimize property damage and avoid utility lines; monitor surroundings for safety of workers and public.
• Transport equipment and materials; inspect and perform light maintenance; document work orders and reports.
• Ensure safety by wearing protective gear, coordinating with crew, and directing traffic when needed.
