Job summary

DeKalb County Government is seeking a skilled equipment operator for Watershed Management. The role drives and operates heavy trucks and industrial equipment used in maintenance, installation, and construction of county infrastructure, utilities, and rights-of-ways.

The position requires a valid Georgia Class B CDL and a DOT Medical Blue Card. You will be responsible for safe operation, load handling, and coordination with supervisors to keep projects on schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; two years of experience in the operation of heavy trucks and/or off-road construction equipment or a related field.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B CDL; some assignments may require Class A CDL and/or endorsements.
• Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates various equipment and vehicles to complete tasks related to maintenance, upkeep, installation, and construction of County grounds and infrastructure.
• Drives roll-off container trucks, positions containers, and dumps material at designated locations.
• Operates bobcat, backhoe and loaders for loading/moving materials and clearing land.
• Operates backhoes for digging and trenching with care to avoid utilities and property damage.
• Mows along right-of-ways with articulated boom systems and monitors equipment for safe operation.
• Collects debris with knuckle-boom trucks and transports to disposal facilities.
