Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks skilled operators to drive and operate heavy trucks, tractors, and related equipment across maintenance, grounds, and construction projects. Responsibilities include loading, hauling, and safely maneuvering loads on county property and public roads.

The role requires a valid Georgia Class B CDL, with some assignments possibly needing a Class A CDL; a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License; some assignments may require a Georgia Class A CDL.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy trucks, tractors and other equipment for maintenance, upkeep, and construction projects.
• Drives vehicles on roads, work sites, and county property while following safety guidelines.
• Operates dump trucks, sanitation trucks, mowing equipment and asphalt-related machinery as part of road and grounds maintenance.
• Performs pre-trip inspections, basic light maintenance and secures loads safely.
• Assists with manual labor tasks, loading/unloading materials and coordinating with supervisors.
