Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment and assist with bridge and road maintenance on the state highway system. This role may require long shifts and weather exposure.

A valid Class A CDL is required within six months, with safety training and ability to lift up to 50 lbs; prior heavy equipment experience preferred; compliance with DOT regulations and training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license; CDL must be obtained within six months.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor.
• Willingness to work extended hours and in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates specialized heavy equipment for bridge and road maintenance on state highways.
• Assists with training on bridge construction and maintenance.
• May lead a small crew and coordinate traffic control during work zones.
• Responds to emergency and inclement weather operations as needed.
