Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a highway maintenance worker to perform a range of bridge-related maintenance and construction tasks. You will operate heavy and medium equipment, perform grading, concrete work, mowing, painting, and setting forms to repair or preserve bridges on the state highway system.

Responsibilities include traffic control, assisting in emergency operations, and potentially extended shifts.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or an approved equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Performs general highway maintenance and operates heavy equipment to repair bridges on the state highway system.
• Is involved in construction, repair, and preservation activities including grading, mowing, concrete work and painting.
• Places traffic control devices and assists in emergency/inclement weather operations as needed.
• Supports related duties as assigned and works extended hours or 12-hour shifts when required.
