Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator to support bridge construction, repair, and cleaning on the state highway system. You will operate heavy machinery, perform form setting, concrete finishing, drainage repairs, and assist with safety and maintenance tasks.

This role may require 12-hour shifts and extended hours, requires a valid driver's license and Class A CDL within six months, and involves physical work in varying weather conditions

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A must be attained within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
• May work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty equipment for bridge construction, repair, and cleaning.
• Perform skilled manual labor: grading, form setting, concrete pouring/finishing, drainage repair.
• Inspect vehicles/equipment and report needed repairs.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to establish work zones.
• Assist during emergencies and inclement weather operations.
• May be required to work outside normal schedule.
