Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Tucson, AZ seeks a Scientist (EO/IR image analysis) to develop, validate, and deploy algorithms for EO/IR data, including detection, tracking, and pattern recognition for space payloads.

You will work with MATLAB, Python, and C/C++, contribute to modeling and simulation libraries, and collaborate with government customers; must hold TS/SCI eligibility and 12+ years experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics/optical sciences/computer science/mathematics/electrical engineering or related field with image processing/EO/IR experience.
• Active U.S. Government Security Clearance with TS/SCI eligibility; U.S. citizenship required.
• 12+ years of professional experience.
• Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or C/C++ for analysis, modeling, simulation, or algorithm development.
• Strong experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing EO/IR sensor algorithms (image processing, pattern recognition).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document work and present results to diverse audiences.
• Ability to contribute to program milestones.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and optimize EO/IR sensor algorithms for image data (noise reduction, enhancement, registration, correction, pattern recognition).
• Apply pattern recognition to detect, classify, and track objects in EO/IR data for mission-critical applications.
• Build and enhance modeling libraries and image simulators for synthetic EO/IR data generation.
• Support and enhance deployed algorithms, troubleshoot fielded systems, ensure performance and reliability.
• Implement and test algorithm improvements in deployed systems for ongoing mission needs.
• Apply strong programming skills (MATLAB, Python, C/C++) to develop robust solutions for real-world problems.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets to extract features and assess performance.
• Document and present algorithm results to government customers.
