Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Scientist for EO/IR image analysis in Tucson, AZ. You will develop, validate, and deploy advanced image processing and pattern recognition algorithms for space payloads and defense customers.

Join a team solving mission-critical sensing challenges, leveraging MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ to process large EO/IR datasets and deliver robust software tools. This role requires US citizenship and TS/SCI eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with image processing or EO/IR experience.
• Active TS/SCI U.S. government clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• 12+ years of professional experience.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and/or C/C++ for analysis and algorithm development.
• Experience designing EO/IR sensor algorithms focusing on image processing and pattern recognition.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present results to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and optimize EO/IR algorithms for sensor data.
• Apply pattern recognition to detect, classify, and track objects in EO/IR data.
• Build modeling libraries and image simulators for algorithm development and testing.
• Maintain and improve deployed algorithms; troubleshoot fielded systems.
• Implement and test algorithm improvements in deployed systems.
• Develop software tools for data collection, analysis, and performance assessment.
• Decompose customer requirements into algorithm and subsystem requirements.
• Document and present algorithm results to stakeholders, including government customers.
• Attend technical meetings and provide status updates; support travel as needed.
