Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Tucson, AZ seeks a Senior Algorithm Engineer II to develop and validate EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads. You will work with ML, optics, and vehicle teams to deliver real-time solutions and trusted analytics for mission-critical applications.

You will model and simulate imagery, apply deep learning where appropriate, and help transition algorithms to production code. A U.S. government clearance is often required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in physics, optical sciences, CS, math, EE or related.
• Extensive image processing or EO/IR systems experience.
• Strong background in computer vision and modeling/simulation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and deploy EO/IR image-processing algorithms.
• Collaborate with ML, optical design, and space vehicle teams.
• Transition algorithms to real-time payload implementations.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets and present results to stakeholders.
• Support ongoing programs and fielded systems for reliability.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline

Master's degree in a related technical discipline

Ph.D. with 2+ years of experience in a related field

Python programming

C/C++

Image processing / EO/IR systems

Computer vision (object detection, tracking)

Experience with modeling & simulation

Strong written and verbal communication

Ability to obtain U.S. Government security clearance
