Job summary

Actalent, an employee-owned firm, seeks an Senior Environmental Scientist/Geologist to lead Phase I ESAs and support Phase II and remediation efforts. You will mentor junior staff, manage multiple projects, and ensure regulatory compliance across SRP/LUST programs.

The role emphasizes environmental due diligence, soil characterization, and timely, high-quality reporting within a flexible, family-oriented culture and strong professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
• 8+ years of environmental remediation and due diligence experience, strong Phase I ESA focus.
• Experience conducting Phase I ESAs incl. site reconnaissance, records review, report prep.
• Strong technical report writing; ability to produce clear, concise reports.
• Experience reviewing/quality-checking environmental reports.
• Knowledge of Illinois EPA SRP and LUST programs.
• Experience with Phase II ESAs: soil sampling, site characterization, remediation.
• Proficiency in soil sampling and disposal characterization (LPC-663 or Subtitle D).
• Project management: oversee multiple projects; deliver init-to-complete.

Responsibilities

• Lead Phase I ESAs from planning to final reports.
• Oversee remediation/due diligence activities ensuring compliance.
• Prepare Phase I/II ESA and related environmental reports.
• Review junior staff reports; provide feedback for accuracy and clarity.
• Mentor junior staff and support professional development.
• Communicate project updates to clients and stakeholders.
• Assist Phase II ESAs: soil sampling, site characterization, monitoring.
• Guide sites through SRP and LUST regulatory processes.
• Coordinate 4–5+ projects, balancing office and field work.
• Ensure safe work practices per OSHA HAZWOPPER requirements.
