Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago is seeking a senior component qualification engineer to advance environmental qualification activities for 10CFR 50.49 equipment in nuclear power plant projects. You will lead a team, review vendor reports, develop specs, and coordinate testing across facilities.

The role involves collaboration across engineering disciplines, travel to client/vendor sites, and guiding junior engineers.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of component environmental qualification experience in the nuclear power plant industry.
• Knowledge of nuclear power plant equipment functionality, materials of construction, failure modes.
• Familiarity with NRC IE Notices, Bulletins, Generic Letters.
• Familiarity with 10CFR Part 50.49, 10CFR Part 21, Regulatory Guides, NUREG and EPRI Documents, IEEE 323-383-334-317 standards.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of component qualification engineers and interface with other disciplines.
• Guide work of less experienced project team members.
• Prepare and review calculations and qualification reports from vendors.
• Develop specifications and revise client design basis documents.
• Support EQ-related inquiries from clients.
• Coordinate EQ testing at various facilities and resolve anomalies with sites.
• Assess equipment material suitability and review maintenance requirements.
• Evaluate EPU and postulated accident effects on equipment.
