Job summary

Brown and Caldwell, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Permitting & Regulatory Specialist to provide day-to-day support for complex permitting projects across DC, MD, and VA.

You will lead NEPA compliance efforts, coordinate with agencies, and mentor team members while managing schedule-sensitive permit activities. The role requires strong experience with Section 404/106 permits, endangered species, and local District approvals, with a preference for NPS project experience.

Qualifications

• Typically 5+ years in compliance and permitting or related field.
• Experience working independently under limited supervision.
• SMS Framework certification or progression preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review technical work by junior staff.
• Conduct regulatory gap analysis for legal/environmental compliance.
• Support strategic permit planning and permit procurement.
• Prepare/submit permit applications per local/state/federal regulations.
• Conduct multi-media environmental audits and reporting.
• Provide compliance reporting to stakeholders.
• Negotiate with regulatory agencies to resolve issues.
