Job summary

Dewberry seeks a Senior Environmental Scientist to join a collaborative Mid-Atlantic team. The role supports wetland science, regulatory permitting, NEPA documentation, and construction compliance across several Virginia offices and Owings Mills, Maryland.

You will lead complex permitting efforts, mentor staff, manage projects and participate in proposals, with a focus on quality, budgets, and schedules. Ten-plus years in environmental resources with permitting experience is expected.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of environmental and natural resources experience with focus on permitting.
• B.S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or related field.
• Environmental certifications preferred: PWD, PWS, VSWD, ISA Arborist.
• Knowledge of VA/MD environmental regulations and NEPA background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute and lead complex environmental permitting, NEPA assessments, and related activities for clients and agencies.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop staffing plans and budgets for project delivery.
• Provide mentorship and QC feedback to mid-level and junior staff; supervise as needed to meet deadlines.
• Assist teams with fieldwork, technical reports, agency coordination, and quality control.
• Lead proposals, contract review, and manage project scope, budget, and schedule.
