Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to accelerate enterprise AI adoption.

This senior individual contributor role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities and build secure, scalable, production-ready solutions. Responsibilities include designing and delivering enterprise AI and Generative AI solutions using Python, APIs, pipelines, and cloud AI services, with focus on unstructured data, document extraction, RAG, and AI governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
• Eight or more years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise AI, Generative AI, or intelligent automation solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, APIs, pipelines, and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, prompt engineering, and AI orchestration frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver enterprise AI and Generative AI solutions from concept through production.
• Develop scalable AI solutions using Python, APIs, pipelines, and cloud AI services.
• Build solutions for complex structured and unstructured information, including document intelligence, data extraction, and workflow automation.
• Apply LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and prompt engineering to appropriate business use cases.
• Build reusable AI frameworks, accelerators, components, and integration patterns that improve solution delivery.
• Partner with engineering, product, architecture, security, and business teams to evaluate where AI is the right solution and design practical approaches that fit the enterprise environment.
• Establish strong engineering practices across testing, security, software quality, scalability, and deployment.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and help expand AI capabilities across the organization.
