Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to accelerate AI adoption across the enterprise. This senior IC will pair hands-on engineering with leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities and build secure, scalable solutions.

The role collaborates across business and technology teams to develop AI capabilities, reusable frameworks, and intelligent automation while expanding AI engineering expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Eight or more years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise AI, Generative AI, or intelligent automation solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, APIs, pipelines, and modern software engineering practices.
• Demonstrated experience solving problems involving complex unstructured documents or data, including extraction methods, accuracy improvement, and scale.
• Experience with LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, prompt engineering, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with AI/ML platforms, MLOps, model lifecycle management, or AI governance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver enterprise AI and Generative AI solutions from concept through production.
• Develop scalable AI solutions using Python, APIs, pipelines, and cloud AI services.
• Build solutions for complex structured and unstructured information, including document intelligence, data extraction, and workflow automation.
• Apply LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and prompt engineering to appropriate business use cases.
• Build reusable AI frameworks, accelerators, components, and integration patterns that improve solution delivery.
• Partner with engineering, product, architecture, security, and business teams to evaluate where AI is the right solution and design practical approaches.
• Establish strong engineering practices across testing, security, software quality, scalability, and deployment.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and help expand AI capabilities across the organization.
