Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to accelerate enterprise AI adoption.

This senior IC will blend hands-on engineering with technical leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities, building secure, scalable, production-ready solutions across business and technology teams. The role focuses on designing enterprise AI capabilities, reusable frameworks, and intelligent automation while expanding AI engineering expertise across the organization.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering enterprise AI or intelligent automation solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, APIs, pipelines, and modern software engineering practices.
• Demonstrated experience solving problems involving complex unstructured documents or data, including extraction methods, accuracy improvement, and solutions operating at scale.
• Experience with LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, prompt engineering, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with AI/ML platforms, MLOps, model lifecycle management, or AI governance.
• Experience building reusable AI frameworks, accelerators, developer tools, or enterprise integrations.
• Experience with cloud AI services, preferably Azure AI and/or Azure OpenAI.
• Strong understanding of secure, scalable, production-quality software engineering.
• Ability to provide technical leadership, consult across organizations, influence senior stakeholders, and communicate complex AI concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver enterprise AI and Generative AI solutions from concept through production.
• Develop scalable AI solutions using Python, APIs, pipelines, and cloud AI services.
• Build solutions for complex structured and unstructured information, including document intelligence, data extraction, and workflow automation.
• Apply LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and prompt engineering to appropriate business use cases.
• Build reusable AI frameworks, accelerators, components, and integration patterns that improve solution delivery.
• Partner with engineering, product, architecture, security, and business teams to evaluate where AI is the right solution and design practical approaches that fit the enterprise environment.
• Establish strong engineering practices across testing, security, software quality, scalability, and deployment.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and help expand AI capabilities across the organization.
