Job summary

U.S. Bank seeks a Principal AI Engineer to accelerate enterprise AI adoption, combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities and deliver secure, scalable production-ready solutions.

The role collaborates across business and technology teams to develop AI capabilities, reusable frameworks, and intelligent automation while expanding AI expertise within the organization. This hybrid role requires three days on-site in Atlanta.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
• Eight or more years of relevant experience required.
• Experience delivering enterprise AI, Generative AI, or intelligent automation solutions preferred.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, APIs, pipelines, and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with AI/ML platforms, MLOps, model lifecycle management, or AI governance.
• Experience building reusable AI frameworks and enterprise integrations.
• Experience with cloud AI services, preferably Azure AI and/or Azure OpenAI.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver enterprise AI and Generative AI solutions from concept through production.
• Develop scalable AI solutions using Python, APIs, pipelines, and cloud AI services.
• Build solutions for complex structured and unstructured information, including document intelligence, data extraction, and workflow automation.
• Apply LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and prompt engineering to business use cases.
• Build reusable AI frameworks, accelerators, components, and integration patterns for enterprise delivery.
• Partner with engineering, product, architecture, security, and business teams to evaluate AI applicability and design practical approaches.
• Establish strong engineering practices across testing, security, software quality, scalability, and deployment.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and expand AI capabilities across the organization.
